MUMBAI: A 21-year-old pillion rider died on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) on Thursday when he was thrown in the air and landed on the divider after the bike on which he was travelling reportedly hit a school bus at Godrej main signal in Vikhroli (E). The biker is in hospital with fractures. The duo was rushing to Sion hospital to collect a medical report, said the Vikhroli police.
Police have registered a case against the biker, Ganesh Tayade (21) under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 304 (A) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 338 (endangering life). Police will arrest Tayade after he gets discharged from hospital. Pillion rider Kailash Gore (21) died of severe head injuries.
Tayade’s family gathered at the police station on Thursday and demanded that he should not be booked as it may affect his career.
“Tayade’s relatives said he has joined the police force recently and is undergoing training for a constabulary post. But he has been booked for negligence,” said senior inspector Mahipat Indalkar.
